Being that I am in the fitness industry, I definitely hear my fair share of excuses.

And I GET it, I really do.

It’s easy to find an excuse for anything that will keep ourselves from living healthy.  Long day at work?  It’s easy to justify not cooking and grabbing fast food?  Stressful things happen throughout the day?  It’s easy to justify “deserving” junk or skipping a workout.

Our comfort zone is where we all naturally want to be. But the cold hard fact is that stepping outside of your comfort zone is exactly what it takes to achieve great things. This is true of all goals, right?

When I first opened GoGirl, I enjoyed an initial boost in business but I fell short for the better part of my first year. Frustrated and unwilling to give up, I hired a business coach who helped me put on my big girl pants and step up to the plate of business ownership. I had to take a long hard look at what I was doing (more like not doing) to grow the business and own up to the fact that I was consistently making excuses for why I didn’t need to do things like….networking, or follow up with leads multiple times, or write newsletters. J Heck, I didn’t even have a phone line for the first few months!

The point is, I knew deep within that I wanted GoGirl, and my entrepreneurial career to work for the long term. So deeply that I committed to doing what it takes to make that happen. Even when I didn’t want to.

The same is true for fitness and long-term health. If you want it to work forever, you have to own your excuses and commit to changing them.  Create non-negotiables in your life, like eating at home 5 nights a week, going to the gym no less than 3 times per week, logging your food each and every day – these things can happen no matter what!

With very few exceptions, there’s no reason that people can’t follow through with a program and find fitness success…but often the case is that the person wants their comfort zone more than the results.

It’s so much easier to live conveniently and fall into old habits even after you’ve gotten started.  If you find yourself making excuses for why you can’t do what you’re supposed to do, pick yourself up by your bootstraps, own it, and commit to doing better.
